Many of our New Year’s resolutions revolve around being active or more mindful—and yoga lets you do both! Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to practice yoga in and around Port Orange. Just read on to learn more—and to see some of our favorite recommendations for pre- and post-yoga fuel. Take a look.
Try yoga by the beach
Here in the Sunshine State, enjoying yoga by the beach is a great way to get outdoors, connect with nature and feel refreshed by the sea breeze as you move from pose to pose. As you would with any workout session, be sure to bring along plenty of H2O to stay hydrated. Head out in the early morning so that you can enjoy a more serene beach experience and more comfortable temperatures, too!
Hop on board
Another great way to enjoy yoga outdoors is to hop on a paddleboard! Here in Port Orange, Riverwalk Park offers a great place to launch from. Invite a few friends to share the experience with you, find some calm water and practice your poses. By enjoying a session on your paddleboard, with the water below you, you can embrace the yoga principle of balance in an all-new way.
Let Fido in on the fun, too!
Looking for a fun way to take your yoga to the next level? Turn your session into “doga” and bring your pup along for the fun! Your dog will enjoy stretching, lying down or simply watching as you go through your poses. You can enjoy doga in your own backyard or at a local dog-friendly beach, like the one at Smyrna Dunes Park!
If you an afternoon yoga session scheduled, you can’t go wrong with a healthy lunch or light snack a few hours beforehand so that you’re fueled up without feeling overly full as you pose! Prioritize protein alongside fruit or veggies for a true feel-good meal. One of our favorite picks is the Seaside Salad with Shrimp, a colorful medley of oak-grilled shrimp, mixed greens, heirloom grape tomatoes, corn clusters and more. If you’re hungry right before class, keep a bag of snacks such as carrots, almonds, or apples and peanut butter handy for an effortless bite.
… or recharge
If you’ve never done yoga before, it’s easy to assume that every session will be slow and simple—but that’s just not true! While yoga definitely encourages us to wind down and be more mindful, it also involves the body and a number of challenging poses the further you progress. Much like you would after any workout, you’ll want to opt for a meal their pairs protein and carbs, which will help replenish your fuel and keep your muscles feeling their best. One hearty option is our Jerk Chicken Bowl, which features Jerk chicken, a wholesome five-grain medley, black bean and corn salsa, pico de gallo, avocado and a pineapple and mango salsa for a sweet, colorful flourish.
We hope that these tips help you enjoy your yoga routine to the fullest! Pack your mat and stop by Coastal Grill before or after your session for fresh flavors and delicious nutrition when you crave it most.
